Step 1: Look at the “Menu” (Find Local Options)
You do not have to search the whole country. You only need a list of companies that work in your local suburb.
- How to get it: Ask a family member to look at the “Find a Provider” tool on the My Aged Care website, or call them on 1800 200 422.
- The Goal: Pick 2 or 3 local companies from that list to call. [1, 2, 3]
Step 2: Ask 3 Simple Questions
Call your 2 or 3 chosen companies. You (or a family member) only need to ask them these three things:
- “Do you have workers available in my area right now?” (Some companies have long waiting lists).
- “Can I get the same worker every week?” (It is much nicer to see a familiar face rather than a stranger every day).
- “What are your fees?” (Ask them to explain their fees clearly in plain English).
Step 3: Trust Your Gut
Once you speak to them, choose the company that makes you feel the most comfortable.
- You are the boss: If they sound polite, patient, and helpful on the phone, give them a try.
- Nothing is permanent: If you sign up and do not like the worker or the company, you can cancel and switch to a new one at any time.
